Acer Iconia A1-810 tablet: It's no iPad Mini, but price-wise, definitely affordable

Into a market that is full of tablets, Acer has jumped in with its Iconia A1-810. The play is on price (low budget), but there are a few tweaks that sets it apart from the rest.
If you were thinking the Acer Iconia A1-810 is an iPad Mini replacement for Android fans, you'd be wrong. Sure, on the surface, the A1-810 aims to replicate the iPad Mini's appeal, but in reality, it is a budget Android tablet.
Both tablets share the same 7.9-inch screen size, 4:3 aspect ratio, and subpar resolution (by today's standards), but that's kind of where the similarities end. The A1-810 is noticeably thicker than the iPad Mini and aesthetically, while it's not homely, it probably won't be winning any design awards.

New smartphones reviews: Android, iOS and more

Smartphones
New phones are continually coming out. Which should you buy? Here's a summary of recent phone reviews, including the latest on Google phones running a pure version of Android.

ANDROID DEVICES:
GALAXY S4, SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO.
The S4 is an excellent device from a hardware standpoint. Its 5-inch screen is larger than its predecessor, yet it's a tad lighter and smaller. The display is sharp, at 441 pixels per inch. Samsung packed the Android device with a slew of custom features, including new camera tools and the ability to perform tasks by waving a finger over a sensor. Many of the features, however, make the phone more complicated to use. In some cases, custom features work only some of the time. In other cases, you're confronted with too many ways to do similar things. The S4 might be for you if you don't mind spending time customizing it. Otherwise, you must bypass all the gimmicks to get to what otherwise is a good phone.

Nokia Unveils $68 Mobile Phones for Speedy Internet Access

Nokia Oyj (NOK1V), the second-biggest maker of mobile phones, unveiled cheaper handsets today to meet consumer demand for fast connections to the Internet.
The Nokia 207 and 208 are candybar-shaped phones that let users connect to speedier third-generation networks, the company said in a statement. They come with Nokia’s Xpress Browser that compresses data and will include social applications such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter. Both handsets will cost $68 and are expected to start shipping this quarter. The third model is a dual SIM version of the Nokia 208.

The company said the new models are its “most affordable 3G devices yet.” As Nokia strives to catch up with Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. in smartphones priced at more than $500, the Espoo, Finland-based company is also trying to boost sales of more basic handsets that sell for a fraction of the price, a category that accounts for most of its device business.
Nokia’s first-quarter sales slumped 20 percent as competition from Asian manufacturers of phones that run Google Inc.’s Android software hurt demand for the company’s cheaper models. Chief Executive Officer Stephen Elop said the decline in its mobile-phone business was primarily caused by competition and Nokia was preparing “aggressive moves” to respond. It unveiled new software to power its Asha mobile phones in May.
